The Next Generation Won't Scroll Your Archive. They'll Ask It.

I build Vestry. Before that, I spent years watching people pour themselves into work that outlives them. Hundreds of podcast episodes. A shelf of books. A course rewritten five times. The kind of catalog that answers real questions for real people, years after it's made.

But the way people reach for those answers is changing. Your audience, and the next generation of it, doesn't scroll through 400 episodes to find the one where you covered something. They open Claude, or ChatGPT, or Gemini, and they ask. That's becoming the front door to everything.

Right now, when they ask about what you've spent years covering, they don't get you. They get a model's blurry, secondhand version. No link back to you. No timestamp. No credit. Nothing in it for you. Sometimes it's close. Sometimes it's wrong, with your name nowhere near it. Either way, your actual work sits in an archive almost no one navigates anymore, answering a fraction of the questions it could.

That's the real problem. It isn't that AI exists. It's that your content isn't accessible the way people now look for answers. Everything you've made should be there when they ask, not left behind it.

Consent.You decide what goes in and what stays out, title by title, episode by episode. Add or pull anything in one click, and it's gone everywhere. Nothing is in by default. If it's there, you put it there.

Citation.Every answer carries your name and links back to the source: your episode, your timestamp, your page. Attribution isn't a courtesy you chase. It's how the answer is built.

Compensation. When your work answers a question, you earn. The catalog you already made, the one just sitting there, goes back to work and gets paid for it.

And it doesn't just put your work to use. It helps you grow. Being where people ask means new people find you, well beyond the audience you already have. And every question is a signal. You see what people actually want to know: the topics that keep coming up, the gaps worth filling, what to make next. Your catalog stops being a finished archive and starts showing you where to go.

You keep every right. You keep control of what's included, the voice it speaks in, the price. Your content is never training data, never melted into a model you can't see. It stays yours. Reached live when someone asks. Returned with a citation. Gone from every surface the moment you pull it.

You spent a decade making this. The next decade, people will reach for it differently. They'll ask. It should be there when they do, answering as you, cited to you, earning for you, and teaching you who's listening. On your terms, or not at all.
